Whyte Yarcowie Wind Farm - Community Information Sessions
Project Update and Upcoming Community Information Sessions
The Whyte Yarcowie Wind Farm project has continued to progress through the environmental assessment and approvals process, with the project team recently completing a review of feedback received during consultation on the Renewable Energy Infrastructure Licence (REIL) application.
Since the public exhibition of the REIL application in 2025, additional environmental surveys and technical studies have been undertaken, informing an updated project design. As a result, the proposed wind farm has been reduced from up to 83 wind turbines to up to 47 wind turbines, with infrastructure relocated in several areas to reduce impacts on protected grasslands, species of significance and other environmental values.
The project team has also progressed planning for a proposed Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) near the Belalie substation and a transmission line connecting the wind farm to the electricity network.
Community information sessions will be held in July to provide an update on the revised wind farm design, proposed BESS and transmission line, key environmental studies and the draft community benefits proposal. Community members are encouraged to attend, ask questions and speak directly with members of the project team.
The information sessions will be held at:
- Wednesday, 15 July, 12pm-3pm - Whyte Yarcowie Public Hall
- Wednesday, 15 July, 5pm-7.30pm - Terowie Institute Supper Room
- Thursday ,16 July, 12pm-3pm - Hallett Hall
Further information about the project, including the updated project design and upcoming consultation activities, will be made available on the project website.
