Small Claims Compensation Scheme - Now Operational

Published 31st March 2025
SA Power Networks has worked with the South Australian Government to implement the Small Claims Scheme so that there is clarity as to what incidents and loss will be covered by the Small Claims Scheme in South Australia.

Effective from 13 March 2025, a small claims compensation scheme for small electricity customers in South Australia is now in operation.

SA Power Networks (SAPN) is responsible for administering the scheme, which includes investigating and assessing claims, as well as providing compensation to eligible claimants.

For more information about the claims process and additional details, please visit SAPN's dedicated web page, learn more here.

Public consultations on the proposed regulations for establishing the scheme took place from 13 September 2024 to 27 October 2024.

The state government carefully reviewed the feedback received during this period to finalise the regulations.

In response to consultation feedback, a mandatory review of the scheme's operation two years after its commencement has been included in the scheme’s regulations.

The finalised regulations, as gazetted, can be accessed here (from page 291): Government Gazette.
