Burra Creek Reed Removal 2024/2025 Update
Please be aware during the process of the works, offensive odours may be present.
- Hoping works will start within the next week or so (this week increase foul odours with the duck faeces and fish carcasses)
- Reeds will be stockpiled alongside the creek for 3 weeks to dry out before they are taken to the Burra Transfer Station
- Dam will be closed and creek will go back to normal for the turtles to relocate after works are completed
In accordance with the Burra Creek Management Plan, as part of Council’s capital works for 2024/2025, funds have been allocated to remove the reeds from the Burra Creek for improvement of public amenities and fire mitigation of the vegetation and surrounding area.
The anticipated work timeframe will be 6-8 weeks.
The water supply to the creek will be isolated as of 26th December 2024 for a duration of 3 weeks to dry the creek out in preparation for removal of the vegetation.
A requirement of the Burra Creek Management Plan is to construct a temporary dam north of the caravan park for the purpose of relocating the turtles during scheduled works.
If you find roaming turtles during this time, please contact Council on council@goyder.sa.gov.au or 08 8892 0100.
